Marina Yanen believes that art shouldn't be confined to walls. She introduces art to your existing surroundings in a form of 3-dimensional functional objects that appeal not just to your eye but also to your sense of touch.

The artist is influenced by moods and time more than by material forms and her process is intuitive. Her concept-based art is often based on stories and legends and is inspired by nature, music and dream imagery. Her wide array of  work includes wall panels, mirrors, treasure boxes and cabinets that are both visually appealing and pleasing to the touch.

Yanen works with acrylics, inks, artist's pencils and mixed media. She occasionally embeds found objects such as metal, glass beads and fibers in her work.  The result is a unique accent piece to engage your imagination and to make a striking impact in your home.

Born in Lvov in the Ukraine Yanen now lives in BC. Her educational background includes architectural technology, graphic design, four years of art school and continued studies in fine and decorative arts.

Yanen's work was  exhibited widely in Lower Mainland and in Europe.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

The purpose of my work is to present creative energy to an environment.  I believe in art as a strong force that brings in kindness and mindfulness to the world. My intentions are to create imagery that engages viewer's imagination, encourages further creativity, and strikes a cord that the outside world could be expressed through the eye of fantasy in a whimsical way.

Most of the artwork is painted on wood.  I often leave the wood grain partially exposed; some of the pieces are constructed from beautiful old wood that has weathered naturally. To me  wood is a very sensual medium; it projects such a warm inviting presence.

The imagery is fluid as the creativity is driven by impulse and intuition. I’m inspired by a subject’s character influenced by moods  more than by its physical form. I also gather my inspirations from stories and legends, music, dream world and my imagination.
